Swansea Bay without a car is not just a website, more a ‘lifestyle’ choice. It’s our aim not just to promote ‘green’ travel options in our amazingly beautiful area; it’s more to show how by travelling more sustainably you are contributing to keeping it that way.
Greener travel options to Swansea Bay just got significantly better in 2020. Great Western Railway has cut over to ‘state of the art’ Inter-city Express Trains offering more and faster journeys from London and the south east. Transport for Wales has upped the number of Sunday trains serving Swansea Bay. National Express and Megabus between them offer high quality and inexpensive travel from most UK cities…and National Cycle Network route 4 offers mostly traffic free cycling into Wales and Swansea Bay.
When you get here, even if you come by car, you don’t have to use it! Local buses will take you all over the coastal and rural areas where you can link up with the iconic Gower Coast Path and other fine walking trails without needing to find parking. Cyclists can use a great network of NCN and local trails in Swansea, Neath, Port Talbot and the valleys (though Gower can be difficult in parts for family cycling).
You could consider making Swansea your base for exploring the wider south west Wales region. With a wide choice of holiday accommodation and good public transport links and cycle networks around the region, day trips to the Brecon Beacons; on the Heart of Wales train; and to the Pembrokeshire coastal resorts, are easy.
Public transport travel is now easier with availability of m ticketing, contactless payment and all-day rover tickets as standard over much of the area.
