Goodbye lighter nights…hello all things autumnal…

Cold, crisp mornings, crunchy orange leaves and darker nights means that we’re fast approaching the first half term of the school year (where did the last 6 weeks go, right?!)

How exciting will it be this year to meet up with family and friends and to celebrate all things the fun of half term brings along with Halloween?

Swansea Council’s Enjoy Swansea Bay team have a spooktacular line up of events to keep your little monsters happy over the holidays with family fun (spooky and not so spooky!) – check out our full list of holiday activities below…

The Swansea Fringe

Supported by Enjoy Swansea Bay, the Swansea Fringe is back this October (21 – 24) showcasing some of the best in art, music, comedy, spoken word and more that Swansea has to offer. Suitable to share something special with your family and friends that you’ll remember for years to come!

Parklives

Our Sport & Health sessions maybe heading indoors in November, but before they do, we have some fantastic sessions for everyone over half term. Our weekly timetable (which includes the likes of Tai Chi, Circuits, Companion Cycling and Nordic Walking) will be running alongside our children’s sessions include Balance Bikes, Welly Walks, Stand Up Paddleboarding sessions, Mountain Boarding and Multi Sports.

Spooks in the City

This fantastical, spooktacular FREE event is returning to Castle Square on Saturday 30 October. Join our Events team who will be bringing you lots of Halloween fun with theatrical make up, craft stall, gory props, and workshops for you to make your very own Halloween crafts. There will also be a Pumpkin Parade taking place at 2pm and there are some fangtastic prizes for those that enter our pumpkin hunt around the city centre.

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

Head to the Gallery and pick up a self-led gallery trail full of activities, or take part in a Halloween mask making workshop on Friday 29 and Saturday 30, there are various time slots available which you can book onto here.

Halloween Family Films – Get in the spirit with a choice of many popular and classic animated family films about monsters, ghosts and magic (titles include Coco, Monsters Inc, Curse of the were rabbit and Labyrinth and more)! Book your choice here.

 

 

Dylan Thomas Centre

‘There could I marvel / my birthday / Away’
October is always a special month at the Dylan Thomas Centre where we celebrate the anniversary of Dylan’s birth on 27 October.

This half term, there’ll be fun and creative activity packs for a range of ages available to pick up for free when you visit the Exhibition. If you can’t visit in person, you’ll find inspiration with the special activity sheets and writing prompts online.

 

 

Swansea Museum

Throughout half term why not hunt around the museum on a self led Golden Skull Trail from Saturday 23 to Sunday 31.

The Creepy Castle Trail

The Creepy Castle Trail is a Halloween themed family event led by the Friends of Oystermouth Castle. This guided trail will lead you around the spooky castle, looking for (friendly) ghosts and ghouls along the way!

There will be plenty of opportunities for fun photos as you’re guided through the Castle graveyard, into the depths of the Castle where ghosts and ghouls lurk in passageways. You may even see The White Lady.

Why not make it even more fun and dress up in your best Halloween costumes (optional). Suitable for all ages.

Autumn walks

Do you enjoy walking through parks and gardens (we’ve got over 50 of them!) woodland, the coastline or farmland? Walking is one of the best ways to discover the beauty of Swansea Bay whatever you age, ability or fitness level, you can check them out here.

 

 

 

 

Meeting up with friends at one of our local parks, or venturing out of your area to find a new park (who doesn’t love that)? We are blessed with so many beautiful parks in Swansea whether it’s to walk the dog, have a kickabout on the green with your friends, take part in a scavenger hunt or see who can go the highest on the swings. It’s always a great way to spend an hour or two, and totally FREE.
