It has been three years since The End of the F***ing World, Channel 4’s critically acclaimed and darkly comic drama series hit series, first hit our TV screens. Now it’s back with rave reviews and some scenes filmed here in Swansea.

Series 2, Episode 1: garage in opening scene

The series opens with a new character, Bonnie (played by Naomie Ackie, Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker), driving into a garage at night. The garage is, in fact, Northway Garage in Bishopston described by Garry Howell as a “nice little garage”.

Series 2, Episode 2: exterior Crown Court

Fans of the TV show who are familiar with Swansea will be scratching their heads when they see James outside the Crown Court – it is, in fact, outside Registrars at the Civic Centre.

Series 2, Episode 3: bridal shop

In this episode, we see Alyssa having a final fitting of her dress the day before her wedding. Some local brides will have stood in the same spot as Alyssa. The shop is Rowberry Bridal in Port Tennant. However, who is Alyssa marrying?

Series 2, Episode 3: registry office

Going to the chapel… Whilst we’re confident The Dixie Cups’ Chapel of Love suits the musical style of The End of the F***ing World, we see Alyssa stepping into a registry office. Can you identify the room? That’s right, it’s the Cefn Bryn celebration room in the Civic Centre. Unbelievably, it took a whole day’s filming for that short scene.

Series 2, Episode 5: at the Chinese restaurant

Chwarae teg (fair play), the production’s art department did an amazing job for the Chinese restaurant scene in the episode. Can you believe it’s actually the Kardomah Café in Portland Street?

Series 2, Episode 8: memories of a cafe

The production team made good use of the Kardomah, it also features in a scene towards the end of the final episode, when James reflects on a conversation he once had with his dad. The Kardomah is no stranger to the screen, the popular city centre café has served as a location for Doctor Who and the Dylan Thomas biopic, Set Fire to the Stars. Although, in that film, it played the role of a diner outside New York.

The End of the F***ing World is currently available on Channel 4’s streaming service, All4, and on Netflix from 4th November.
