A is for Awe-inspiringEnough said. But we can’t resist adding that Rhossili Bay is the only UK beach ever to be awarded the Trip Advisor’s Travellers Choice Award for Best Beach this year – for the second year running! (Image: Rhossili Bay). |
B is for BreathtakingThis. Is Three Cliffs Bay. Loved by photographers, walkers and climbers. It’s definitely what you call an iconic view. |
C is for Christmassy‘Tis the season to be jolly and you can see a lot of jolly faces at Waterfront Winterland; on the ice rinks, at the festive funfair and in Santa’s Grotto. |
D is for DiscoveryWhy not start with Dylan Thomas? It’s the perfect time of year to get all nostalgic and ‘Christmas in Wales’ (18th December) at the Dylan Thomas Centre is just the thing to get you in the festive mood. While you’re there don’t miss the new ‘Love the Words’ Exhibition. |
E is for EscapingEscape the building festive fever with an exhilarating winter walk; drink in the view from the top of a Gower clifftop, before heading home to start on the mulled wine! |
F is for FamilyPrise the game controller and the selection box out of those little hands and get out to enjoy a change of scene. There’s ice skating and all the fun of the fair at Waterfront Winterland, hands-on history at the museums or escape the cold at tropical Plantasia. |
G is for Great OutdoorsNew Year, new you. 2015 is the year to get out in the Great Outdoors and try something new. How about paragliding over Rhossili or stand-up paddleboarding in Swansea Bay? |
H is for Hidden TreasureDig a little deeper. Stray off the beaten path and find yourself a hidden treasure. Magical waterfall walks at Penllergare Woods and secluded coves like Pwll Du Bay are just a couple of gems waiting for you! |
I is for Ice CreamThe good thing about this weather is that your ‘99’ won’t melt, so you can savour it down to the last slurp! Our famous ice cream is just lush – and too good to wait until summer for – we like to enjoy it all year round! |
J is for Jump!Jump for joy! We’re nearly done with January! Get the blood pumping with an early spring break. Jump into the chic boutiques and cosmopolitan cafes of Mumbles, or take a leap into the unknown and try coasteering from the Gower clifftops (with a qualified instructor, of course!). |
K is for KnowledgeAt a crossroads? Our terrific team at Swansea Tourist Information Centre have got the know how and the low down on the right holiday combo for you. Where to stay. What to do. What’s on. Ask real people in real time for a real holiday. |
L is for LurveCue music. Cue hearts and flowers. Cue romantic backdrop. Arguably the most romantic beach in the UK, Rhossili Bay is renowned for romance and popular for popping the question. Go on, you know you want to! |
M is for MagicMumbles is magical. It’s just one of those places that you instantly fall in love with. Incredible ice-cream parlours (4 at the last count,) lovely little arty craft shops, and even a Lovespoon Gallery. Topped off with a medieval castle – what’s not to like! |
N is for NostalgiaWarm and comforting memories of childhood holidays or romantic weekends away; can you taste the ice-cream, feel the sand between your toes, see the view? We’d love to hear about your past Gower getaways, Swansea summers or Mumbles moments. Let’s start the week by enjoying those warm fuzzy feelings of holidays past! |
O is for OceanBig, blue and as wide as the sky. From the West Coast of Gower the next stop’s America! How do you play in the waves? Surf? Sail? Swim? We’d like to share your fave ways of relaxing in those Atlantic rollers. |
P is for PawsYes, we saw it too! The sun is showing her face again and it’s time to get outside and enjoy it. Bring the family – and we mean everyone. Four-legged friends are very welcome and there’s nothing better than a long run on the sand – your furry bff will enjoy it too! Check out these dog friendly beaches. |
Q is for QuirkyMumbles is a little seaside village with a big personality; It does the whole ‘day at the seaside’ thing with style. Ice-cream, frothy milkshakes and end-of-the-pier fun – but it also has a more cultured side. Think art galleries, craft shops, chic boutiqes, trendy tea shops and table-with-a-view dining. You could almost call it coastal couture. |
R is for RelaxThe sun’s come out and it’s all daffodils and newborn lambs round here. Say hello Spring and book a weekend away to re-charge your batteries. We’re thinking strolls along the beach, a relaxing dinner, or a pint in a countryside pub. It’s definitely time for some time out. |
S is for ShhhCan you hear that? It’s the sound of peace and quiet. With 19 miles of coastline, you’ll find plenty of quiet spots on Gower. It may not be completely silent though. You may hear the sound of the sea or the birds in the trees. But the sounds are those #SwanseaBayMoments you will remember for years to come. |
T is for ThrillingHow would you define thrilling? Jumping off a cliff into the sea? (We call it coasteering!), kitesurfing (does what it says on the tin) or mountain boarding (mountain + board = fun!). A thrill seekers paradise is waiting for you in Swansea Bay. |
U is for UnforgettableCaravan and camping holidays with the family on Gower, bbq with friends, long walks on the beach with loved ones, ice cream in Mumbles, picnics on the Prom and cockles from Swansea Market. Unforgettable memories that will stay with you forever. |
V is for ViewsWe know they’re beautiful here because you tell us all the time. Some of your faves include Rhossili Bay, Worm’s Head and Three Cliffs Bay. Not forgetting Cefn Bryn for 360 degree views across Gower (feeling on top of the world!). Or sitting on the five mile sweep of Swansea Bay and enjoying the view across to Mumbles – what a pretty picture! |
W is for WalkingCoastal walks. Rural walks. Clifftop walks. Walking is a big deal here. And it’s not hard to see why. Swansea Bay is home to 51 miles of coastal walks (39 of which are part of the Gower Coast Path) and the 35 mile long Gower Way (there’s three sections so you don’t have to walk it all at once!). Not forgetting the walking trails in Rural Swansea. Boots – check. Map – check. Off you go! |
X is for “X marks the spot”And it’s on Gower – beneath the serene surface of all that glorious coastline and countryside is a secret – a hidden past of smugglers, wreckers and their treasure! Caves in our craggy cliffs used to shield the coveted contraband from prying (custom official) eyes. But don’t be too hard on our ancestors – times were hard for the working man or woman in those days! These days, X marks the spot on your holiday map of a coastal path walk or a welcoming restaurant or Tudor castle to explore – it’s still treasure – just a different kind! |
Y is for YawnSame old, same old, getting you down? Got a case of the Monday blues? Then what you need is a spring refresher. Time to try something new, someplace different. Browse through our Temptations pages for inspiration – there’s plenty there to entice the foodie in you, the culture vulture or the adventurer. Plan it, book it – now you’ve got something to look forward to. Nice. |
Z is for Zero, Zip, Zilch!Because that’s exactly what you could be doing when you get here. Soaking up the views or taking a quiet stroll with the wind in your face and not a care in the world. You’ll feel like you’re a million miles away from any worry or strife (but in reality it’s usually only an hour or two’s drive). |
