Model Rail Weekend will hit the track at the National Waterfront Museum this weekend from 11am till 4pm on Sat 30 and Sun 31 Aug 2014.
It will be a chance for visitors to see 20ft-long model railway layouts, take part in hands on activities, browse promotional stalls and see modelling demonstrations in action.
Taking centre stage will be Porthcawl Miniature Railway, where children will have the opportunity to ride the model (weather dependent) from 12pm-3.30pm (both days).
XL Wales will be hosting hands-on workshops where families can have a go at building a motorised train out of K’NEX from 11am-3.30pm (both days).
On Saturday only at 1pm, join author and lifetime railway enthusiast David Beynon for a fascinating insight into the history of the Mumbles Railway.
David will delve into the railway’s history from its inception in March 1807 where coaches were drawn by horses laid on the rails to carry limestone from Mumbles to Swansea docks, to it finally closing in 1960.
The ever-popular Ratty’s Code-Buster Trail will run throughout the weekend (10am-4pm), where families must seek out the pesky rodents to crack the code whilst exploring the Museum’s 300 year Welsh history.
“We’re looking forward to a fun-packed weekend for the whole family to enjoy,” said Events Assistant, Andrew Kuhne.
“So whether you’d like to have a go at a model railway K’NEX construction, or just browse the stalls selling all things railway-inspired, then pop in and spend the last few days of the school holidays with us at the Museum.”
